Inquiring into Identity

This lesson requires the creation of Wordles, and a short essay.

This module will last 2 weeks.

Objective
To inquire into the meaning of existence and its application to self-awareness.

Instructions
1. Think about and inquire into the meaning of existence, and make a list of words that you feel are relevant to describe your existence. This list can include words that represent your likes, dislikes, values, interests, occupations, personality, family, etc..

2. In addition to the first list, create a second list with words that you feel describes the existence of what it means to be human. These lists can take time, so spend the first week writing down what comes to mind. Feel free to discuss with others outside of class what words they think of to describe existence.

3.Once you have your lists completed, go to www.wordle.com. Choose the words from your lists that you feel are representative of yourself and the human being. Feel free to experiment with options and the layout of your Wordle, again choosing the format you feel best represents your perspective and understanding of existence. Take a screenshot of your Wordles, edit them in Photoshop, save as JPEG's, and upload them both to your blog.

4. Write a 2-3 page essay discussing your project, and what existence means to you as an individual and as part of the human species. Discuss who you spoke with and their perspective on existence and how this altered your own. Include how and why you chose the words and layout, and how they have further enlightened your self-awareness. Properly cite all materials used using APA style.

5. Respond to at least two other students posts providing constructive criticism and feedback.

Assessment
The assessment for this lesson is based on active participation in the inquiry into the meaning of existence and how it applies to self-awareness.The discussion serves to share understanding, while the essay and project show individual knowledge of the objective.
